The feeding tube enables people who can’t eat normally—due to injury, oral cancer, or another short-or long-term illness—to get the food and nutrition they need via a tube fed into the stomach through the abdomen.
The tube works by delivering specialized liquid nutrition formula directly into your stomach or intestines.
CHARACTERITICS
The feeding tube is a medical device used to provide nutrition to patients who cannot obtain nutrition by mouth, are unable to swallow safely, or need nutritional supplementation.
- A feeding tube is a tube that is surgically inserted through the skin of the abdomen directly into the stomach.
- The medical term for this is Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy tube or PEG tube.
- People with feeding tubes are fed by putting a form of liquid nutrition into the tube.
