Colonoscopy: Colon Polyp Removal
KWT Medicals News • Jan 2, 2019
ANow we learn about polyps hobbits are just basically gross inside the colon. There are different types of polyps it meaning a mother dog, some are sessile means they’re kind of flat and raised the worst enemy because diminutive bullets and some are flat.
But polyps are usually the reason why people get colonoscopies if colonoscopies at screening tests or in other words preventative time. we do colonoscopies at the basically age-appropriate screening to prevent cancer what we do is we look for polyps that otherwise turn into cancer is lifting the bullet for a long time without intervention.
What happens is if the bowler basically grows in size over time. and then what happens it starts getting a little cancer cell man and then if you keep it alone al this time. It’s the cancer cells kneeled down into the mucosa and unfortunately, they come inside outside of the colon wall, and moving to the monk’s nose and eventually to distant organs like the liver the bone and the brain.
So the point of doing a full announce would be is to catch these polyps before they have a chance to advance into cancer. So I’m gonna show you how we remove polyps so a lot of patience with you all when you see a polyp hiding in remove it so I asked my assistant Sarina here to help me to follow it’s very small.
What we do is we use this tool here it’s if I am a forceps arena good and open it. Look at how tiny this ting is right, so I’ll show you on my hand. I’m gonna have Sarina take a biopsy my glove go ahead. So pretty much that’s it I mean it’s not cutting through the block very well, but it just basically hooks on to the polyp and you can pull it out, pull it off. It’s very very small right and it’s basically four very tiny polyps in the colon.
Another tool we use is called the snare or snare qualified to me meaning pretty much removing polyps that are thicker ice to open it. These this tool is pretty cool and it’s used for bigger polyps such as the ones that I showed you here with this dog to dunk. You’ll eat it because you can do literally put this up here around the polyp and take it down to the neck and capitate it.
So i’ll show you for example this is a badonkulous pedunculated fall if we can put the snare around and close it. and we can actually literally burn the tissue and produce it basically can conduct electricity we can burn it and cauterize it and remove it.
And that cuts the polyp in entirety if you have very very large polyps that are bigger than this. we have to remove the piece. So imagine this is a very large pallet. We would go ahead and cut this part first and remove that and then open it.
Move down here, close that and open it again, and close that, and so pretty much remove it piecemeal. Now if we run into a situation where we have large cancer and this device is just not large enough to catch the entire column or cancer and if you think that we would be leaving residual tissue.
It’s the best way to do it is to actually take these biopsy for stress and take biopsies of the vulva to submit to pathology and basically put down two markings here in. So when it comes back get s cancer the patient can go to surgery and the surgeon can see exactly where the tattoo markings are section, to make sure that cancer has traveled to the left notes.
So that’s what you do a colonoscopy or that’s not how you do for us but that’s how you do politics to me when you’re doing it for an Oscar people. I look that helps if you have any questions please go ahead and write them for me.
